Switzerland reopens embassy in Tehran amid improved stability

Switzerland has reopened its embassy in Tehran after a temporary closure due to regional instability following Israel’s attacks on Iran. The decision was made following risk analysis and in coordination with Iran and the US.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Swiss government has announced the reopening of its embassy in Tehran, following a temporary closure due to instability linked to Israel’s recent conflict with Iran.

On Sunday, Switzerland stated that the embassy has resumed operations with its ambassador present in Tehran.

“Effective July 6, 2025, the Swiss Embassy in Tehran is once again open, having been temporarily closed since June 20 due to the volatile situation in Iran. Ambassador Nadine Olivieri Lozano and a small team returned to Tehran overland via Azerbaijan. The embassy will restart its work gradually,” the government announced on its official portal.

The reopening, it said, came after a thorough risk assessment and in coordination with both Iran and the United States. As Switzerland represents US interests in Iran, the current conditions allow a phased return to operations. However, consular services, including visa issuance, remain suspended. All Swiss diplomatic missions maintain crisis protocols which are regularly reviewed and adjusted.

Switzerland emphasized it is closely monitoring regional developments and remains in contact with international partners. The statement urged all parties to recommit to diplomacy, offering Geneva as a venue for talks. With its diplomatic team now back in Tehran, Switzerland reiterated its readiness to resume its role as the protecting power for US interests in Iran.
